Consequently, cities are also the major driving force in today’s world economy, accounting for nearly half the total economic output. We have seen the rise of city-states in the past years and cities are now the power players in the economic playing field.
It is also undeniable that the major trends, innovations, technological and scientific breakthroughs happen in cities. They are the melting pot of ideas, the crossroads where people of different culture interact and share with each other.
The city is at the centre of everything. And being at the centre also means that its effective management can be a daunting task. Allocation of resources, transportation, energy, housing are some of the key challenges that are affecting every city around the world.
